Breaking into the tech sector shouldn’t depend on having an expensive university degree or knowing someone on the inside. With Connect Launchpad, we are levelling the playing field—connecting individuals from all backgrounds across Greater Manchester and the North West with live, debt-free, paid tech apprenticeships, backed by free one-on-one mentorship every step of the way.

At Connect Talent CIO, our core mission has always been simple yet urgent: tear down the barriers of digital inequality and empower everyday people across Salford, Greater Manchester, and the wider North West to thrive in the modern economy.

Today, as an official Community Member of TechFirst (the UK Government's flagship digital skills initiative), we are thrilled to announce an exciting new milestone in that mission: the official launch of Connect Launchpad.

Connect Launchpad is a free, charity-backed digital gateway designed to solve two of the biggest roadblocks in modern career progression: finding genuine, live tech apprenticeships across our region, and securing the personalized coaching needed to actually win those roles.

What is Connect Launchpad?

Traditional job searching in tech can feel overwhelming. Job boards are often flooded with outdated postings, confusing acronyms, and unrealistic entry requirements that demand years of experience for entry-level jobs.

Connect Launchpad is different. Connected directly to the UK Department for Education (DfE) Apprenticeship Service API, Launchpad continuously streams verified, live digital apprenticeship opportunities across Greater Manchester, Merseyside, Lancashire, Cheshire, and Cumbria.

  • 100% Tuition-Free & Debt-Free: Your training is fully funded by the UK Government apprenticeship levy. You never pay a penny in course fees or student debt.
  • Earn While You Learn: Starting salaries range between £15,600 and £31,600+ per year, allowing you to build real financial stability while acquiring world-class industry experience.
  • Accredited Industry Qualifications: Roles span Level 3 (equivalent to A-Levels) up to Level 6 and 7 (full Bachelor’s and Master’s Degree Apprenticeships) delivered by top regional universities and certified training providers.
  • Hyper-Local North West Focus: Filter positions across Salford, Manchester city centre, Trafford, Bolton, Bury, Oldham, Rochdale, Stockport, Wigan, and MediaCityUK.

The Connect Talent Difference: Free 1-on-1 Pre-Application Mentorship

Most online portals simply give you an external application link and leave you on your own. For individuals without existing industry networks, that often leads to repeated rejections and frustration.

Because Connect Talent CIO is a registered charity (Charity No. 1169975), we never charge for our support. Before you hit submit on an apprenticeship vacancy, our team provides intensive, tailored pre-application support:

The Thursday-to-Career Feeder Pipeline

One of the most exciting aspects of Connect Launchpad is how it directly connects to our grassroots community work.

Every Thursday at St James’s House in Salford, Connect Talent runs our free Essential Digital Skills and AI literacy classes. We regularly meet learners who arrive nervous about sending an email, but within weeks are coding basic HTML, automating workflows, or writing children’s books with Generative AI (like our recent Salford Adult Learner Awards honorees, Layla and Sybil).

Connect Launchpad serves as the natural continuation of that journey: taking individuals from foundational community learning all the way to paid, professional tech careers.

Busting Common Myths About Tech Apprenticeships

There are several persistent misconceptions that stop talented people from applying. Let’s set the record straight:

Myth 1: “Apprenticeships are only for 16-year-old school leavers.”

Reality: Apprenticeships have no upper age limit in England. Whether you are 18, 28, 38, or 58, you are fully eligible to apply. Employers actively value the maturity, life experience, and reliability that adult career changers bring.

Myth 2: “You need a Computer Science degree or previous tech work experience.”

Reality: Apprenticeships are designed from the ground up to train you on the job. Employers look for problem-solving curiosity, work ethic, and enthusiasm—not existing commercial programming experience.

Myth 3: “Apprenticeships don’t pay a living wage.”

Reality: Tech apprenticeships are among the highest-paying in the UK. North West digital employers regularly offer starting salaries between £18,000 and £31,600+ with full employee pension and holiday benefits, alongside 100% free degree tuition.
